IT Department Improves Processes to Detect More Defects Sooner

Summary: For the Tufts Health Plan IT department, SEI CMMI-based process improvements resulted in a 16 percent decline in defects identified in testing. The department also saw a 68 percent increase in the number of peer reviews conducted as a quality check before production, and a 59 percent increase in the number of issues identified in those peer reviews. Process improvements focused on requirements development; decision analysis and resolution; organizational process focus, process definition, and innovation and deployment; and risk management.
