Taking a Snapshot in Time: Pewaukee School District's Approach to Baldrige-Based Award Program

Summary: Searching for a meaningful process to recognize its commitment to continuous improvement, the Pewaukee School District selected the Malcolm Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence. The district set a goal to submit an application for the 2007 Wisconsin Forward Award (WFA), a statewide program based on the Baldrige criteria. Despite an abbreviated application schedule, the district worked through the time crunch and submitted its application—six months earlier than anticipated. The Pewaukee district was recognized as the first K-12 school district to receive a Mastery level award in the WFA program. This southeastern Wisconsin district continues to use the Baldrige framework to improve all aspects of its work, from student learning to human resources practices.
