We've done the conceptual Sts design, now what? What do you do after the design team is done?

Summary: Much of what is written about the socio-technical systems analysis (STS) approach to designing (or redesigning) organizations has focused on front-end processes, but little has been written about what happens after the design team completes its task. The author describes the experience of an implementation team process used in the redesign of a Fortune 500 company in the Midwest. The process included defining membership and responsibilities of implementation teams, providing orientation to the teams, and designing day-to-day activities. The need to address customer issues is also discussed, and the author offers a recommended approach for improving the implementation process based on hindsight.
