Column: Voices From The Field: Ownership of Space

Summary: Meeting rooms are becoming increasingly important in the 21st Century as work changes to require more gathering and collaborating to resolve issues. Meetings are structured social encounters and physical environment is crucial to those encounters, with meeting environments capable of strengthening or negating the positive impact we desire. Suggestions for making meetings more successful include: making the meeting room unique by adding one-of-a-kind items; using plants, flowers, and trees to bring nature indoors; arranging the room so that everyone can see and talk to everyone else; making sure the lighting is adequate; subtly treating the five senses; and testing the resonance in the room.
