Integrating the Internet Into Conflict Management Systems
Summary: E-mail and the Internet have increased organizational performance, but they have also added new sources of conflict that need to be integrated into an overall approach to conflict management. An integrated conflict management system that includes e-mail and the Internet must have structures to coordinate and nurture the system if it is to succeed. Strategies to consider include champions from senior management, a continuous oversight body, a central coordinating board, conflict coaching, training, evaluation, and reward systems. Legislation has been passed that will cause organizations to consider the implications of the Internet on their conflict management systems. The response should not be a defensive one driven by fear of litigation, but should aim to maximize all that the Internet and e-mail have to of as new access points and support structures.
