A Use of Extreme-Value Statistics

Summary: Most acceptance testing is concerned with estimating the mean or the mean and variability of a product. However, there are many occasions where the maximum or minimum value of a product is of primary concern. If it can be determined that the product approximates the double exponential distribution, then Extreme Value Statistics can be used for estimating reliability and as a basis for acceptance testing. This method was used to determine the minimum acceptance strength of the wire command link in a small anti-tank missile.
