A Lot Sensitive Sampling Plan for Compliance Testing and Acceptance Inspection

Summary: An acceptance sampling plan is presented that is applicable in general acceptance sampling and is particularly useful in compliance and safety-related testing. It provides for rejection of the lot if any defective items are found in the sample; a well-defined relationship between the sampling plan and the size of the lot being inspected; a clear indication of the economic impact of the quality levels utilized in the plan; and simplicity and clarity in use.Based on the hypergeometric probability distribution, it gives the proportion of the lot that must be sampled to guarantee that the fraction defective in the lot is less than a prescribed limit with odds of 9:1 (i.e., LTPD protection). Various applications are presented, together with a discussion of the operating characteristics and other measures of the plan's protection.
