Simplified Factors for Analysis of Means When the Standard Deviation is Estimated from the Range

Summary: In many instances one-way analysis of means is performed using the range of the treatment subgroups to estimate the error standard deviation. When the subgroup sizes are equal, calculation of the decision limits can be simplified to multiplication of the average range by a factor that depends on the subgroup size and number of subgroups being considered. Tables of these factors have been calculated and are presented.
