Analysis of Variation Transmission in Manufacturing Processes - Part I

Summary: [This abstract is based on the authors' abstract.] Methods of studying variation are discussed for characteristics of products that move through a multistage manufacturing process. The key is to track and measure individual parts as they pass through the multiple stages. Simple regression and analysis of variance tools are suggested for studying variation attributable to different stages and for identifying opportunities for variation reduction.
