The Performance of Multivariate Control Charts in the Presence of Measurement Error

Summary: [This abstract is based on the authors' abstract.] A model demonstrates that the performance of multivariate control charting methods based on measured covariates is not directionally invariant to shifts in the mean vector of the underlying process variables. This is the case even if it is directionally invariant when no measurement error exists. To illustrate the point, an expression for the power of the chart under measurement error is given. Power curves are developed for bivariate examples considered.
