Using Logistic Regression to Evaluate New Lid Designs

Summary: [This abstract is based on the authors' abstract.] The evaluation of competitive product designs often considers a wide range of factors in the determination of the best design for use in manufacturing. Performance characteristics may take the form of a pass/fail response that, because of its dichotomous nature, does not lend itself to traditional regression techniques based on normal distribution of error terms with constant variance. Generalized linear models, specifically logistic regression, are investigated as a solution to the pass/fail response. The method is demonstrated in the selection of design for a new beverage container lid.
