Index C*(pm) in Multiple Response Optimization

Summary: [This abstract is based on the authors' abstract.]The proposed index C*(pm) used as an optimization criterion in process capability may be considered an extension of mean squared error that allows practitioners to find an optimal setting with the mean responses close to target values while the standard deviations of the responses are kept small. The index is applicable when upper specification limits, target values, and lower specification limits of mean responses are available, but may be applied in specific situations when one or the other of the specification limits is unavailable.
