Joint Monitoring of Process Mean and Variability with a Single Moving Average Control Chart

Summary: [This abstract is based on the authors' abstract.]Exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA), cumulative sum (CUSUM), and moving average are memory based control charts widely used as alternative to the Shewhart charts for the detection of small sustaining process shifts. Since its introduction, numerous extensions have been proposed for the EWMA chart, but not many have been considered for the moving average charts. A moving average control chart is proposed to monitor the mean and the variability at the same time and indicate the source and direction of a shift.
