Critical Factors for Successful Implementation of Process Capability Studies

Summary: [This abstract is based on the authors' abstract.] To identify critical factors in the implementation of process capability studies, a model of implementation was developed. Then, a multiple case study was conducted to test the model. Nine Swedish organizations were studied, and six critical factors for successful implementation were identified. The factors are: management support, kickoff, educational efforts, a structured approach, communication, and continuous support. Based on these results, a strategy for implementation is suggested. Certain parts of the strategy probably can be applied when implementing other statistically based improvement methods.
