A Holistic Framework for TQM in the Software Industry: A Confirmatory Factor Analysis Approach

Summary: [This abstract is based on the authors' abstract.] The software industry has felt the impact of global competition, and software quality practitioners are seeing total quality management (TQM) as a competitive strategy to help gain a competitive advantage. Factors critical to TQM in the software industry are identified and a framework for quality management is presented. A proposed instrument for measuring the levels of quality management practices is empirically tested for validity and reliability by using a confirmatory factor analysis technique. The study, which includes a literature survey on quality management in the software industry, develops a holistic framework for TQM in the industry.
