Karate in Business School? This Is Not Your Father's Black Belt

Summary: [This abstract is based on the author's abstract.]An overview is presented of leverage used in an existing MBA curriculum to prepare students to certify as Six Sigma Black Belts through ASQ. Given the complexity of the ASQ's SSBB body of knowledge, the preparation of students for certification is most appropriate for graduate-level business students. An explanation of how a full-time MBA program was leveraged to prepare students for SSBB certification is presented. Representative projects completed by students illustrate the applicability of Six Sigma methodology to a wide range of business issues and organizational settings.
