On Statistical Process Control Design

Summary: [This abstract is based on the author's abstract.]A case is made for making the characterization of physical relationships among design variables, process parameters, and performance variables the focus of designing statistical process control systems. This makes possible the construction and investigation of groups of performance measures that can be used to evaluate and select policies. An example model demonstrates the interacting sources of variability in an SPC system using X-bar and standard deviation charts.
