Experiences in Software Inspection Measurements

Summary: [This abstract is based on the authors' abstract.]Nokia Networks in Hangzhou, China, began improvement of its software inspection practices in 2002. This article focuses on the measurement side of that improvement. Three basic types of raw data - size, time, and defects - are shown to be difficult to measure, but nonetheless have an influence on the resulting metrics. The different metrics used by the research team are examined, and how and why they were used is discussed. The use of metrics for motivational purposed is considered.
