Modified Nominal/Target Control Charts – A Case Study in Supplier Development

Summary: [This abstract is based on the author�s abstract.] In the manufacture of complex parts, short-run statistical process control can reduce the number of control charts to two, regardless of the number of quality characteristics per part. The length of short-run control charts, however, increases in correlation with the number of quality characteristics and may become complicated and difficult to interpret. A technique is described to modify nominal/target charts without increasing the length, regardless of the number of quality characteristics. Additionally, capability indices for quality characteristics that differ in nominal but have the same tolerance can be combined into one set of four indices. A case study illustrates the technique.
