The competitive global business environment demands that suppliers provide products at defect-free, parts-per-million quality levels. This allows customers to receive material and send it directly to manufacturing units, eliminating the need for expensive incoming inspection. There is a trend away from using price as the chief criterion for supplier selection. Quality, management, technology, delivery, and price are aggressively targeted by in-depth reviews. In many cases, the lower the price, the lower the quality and the poorer the delivery. Technology, price, and management are evaluated in separate proactive decisions made before selecting suppliers. Quality and delivery are measured on a daily basis to provide an ongoing view of active performance.
