Inspection and Testing Methods for Manufacturing Processes. Part II: An Experimental Approach
Summary: This paper describes an experimental approach for predicting surface finish in the dry facing of medium carbon steel. The four independent variables included are: cutting speed, feed rate, depth of cut, and surface speed per minute. An optical technique using a He-Ne laser is used to measure surface roughness of the cut surface. Stepwise regression analysis was used in developing the model. The study showed that all the variables studies were significant.
