Bootstrap Control Charts

The bootstrap methodology is used to set up the "X" chart and R (or s) chart for SPC. The algorithm proposed permits the QA engineer to have greater control of the design of control charts by direct manipulation of Type I errors. As a result, detecting power of the control charts is increased while the Type I error is maintained at a user-specified level. The algorithm has been use in a computer program and can be applied to any process with arbitrary probability distribution and sample size.
