Robust Surveillance Plans for Monitoring Shelf Life of Systems with Degradation

Summary: Several alternative surveillance plans for evaluating the shelf life of chemical defense coveralls subject to unknown degradation profiles are examined for robustness and cost. A modified sequential sampling plan is selected that limits the number of tests conducted each year. The plan is shown to be responsive to different degradation profiles, to require the minimum number of tests, and to have the best tradeoff of costs due to Type-I and Type-II errors.
