Target Allocation for Maximizing Wear Allowance of Running Fits Based on Process Capability

Summary: [This abstract is based on the authors' abstract.] A new approach to optimal target allocation is presented for maximizing wear allowance of running fits. The method is based on process capability indices. A new concept, target coefficient (, is presented for uniform measure of target allocation. The new target allocation method can set not only the targets for process means of mating parts but also the limits of bias to target. Therefore, the percentages of nonconforming mating parts can be controlled at an expected level. This new method will benefit customers (with increased service life of bearings) and the manufacturer (in reputation of high-quality products).
