Individual Observation Process Monitoring Charts for Systems with Response Lags

Summary: [This abstract is based on the author?s abstract.] Statistical process control and engineering process control have long been considered distinct domains for process improvement. Four control policies are proposed to integrate the two approaches using a proportional-integral-derivative feedback controller and Shewhart or moving centerline exponentially weighted moving average charts. The impact of these policies is considered for a system with response lags modeled by a second-order dynamic process and autocorrelated nonstationary outside disturbances. The policies are applied in a case study of a liquid tank system and found to be effective with respect to overall system performance.
