Estimating and Improving Control Limits with RWAV for Normal and Non-normal Processess

Summary: [This abstract is based on the authors' abstract.] The statistical properties of Shewhart control charts and the root weighted average of variance (RWAV) method are compared for the estimation of variance of a process for quality control purposes. The effects of non-normality for different estimators are investigated. Results show that RWAV gives the best estimates of the standard deviations for both normal and non-normal processes.
