Simultaneous Optimization of Mean and Standard Deviation

Summary: [This abstract is based on the author’s abstract.] The objective function is proposed as an alternative method for optimizing both the standard and the mean deviation of a quality characteristic of a product or process. The method accommodates all response types and allows distinct weights to be assigned to the deviations so that trade-off solutions can be determined based on their relative magnitudes. A practical procedure for implementing the proposed method is presented.
