Lean Construction Submittal Process - A Case Study

Summary: [This abstract is based on the authors' abstract.] Items sent by contractors to the project engineer in a construction field office for review and approval are known as construction submittals. If these submittals are late, incomplete or deficient it can create delays in the construction schedule. A number of lean concepts were used to analyze the submittal review process at a typical levee project. The application of lean concepts was found to lead to measurable savings in process and lead times.
