Monitoring the Measuring

Summary: Variance in processes is a given, but variance in a measurement system is often overlooked in process analyses. Measurement systems can also produce variance, and the best way to test a measurement system is by using Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility (GR&R). GR&R measures a process multiple times and provides variance data over those multiple measurements. This analysis can isolate a problem with a measurement system when also considering variation within a process as a whole.
