Critical Success Factors for Implementing Data Profiling: The First Step Toward Data Quality

Summary: [This abstract is based on the authors' abstract.] Data profiling is the first step in the journey to improve data quality and is a proactive approach to understanding an organization's data. Data profiling is a process that gives the picture of the existing data quality. This article focuses on understanding the critical success factors (CSFs) driving the implementation of data profiling in the industry, and presents the results of the survey conducted in different organizations. In total, 10 CSFs with 35 variables were identified from the literature and discussions with data quality professionals. Survey results revealed that strong data governance is the most important factor, followed by teamwork. Training and education is the least important factor in successful implementation of data profiling.
