Software Development Practices and Software Quality: A Survey (Expanded Online Version)

Summary: The authors conducted a survey of nearly 250 software professionals concerning software development practices used in their organizations. In this article, they report results that are of particular interest to software quality professionals, with emphasis on linking the reported practices to the finished product's quality and the project's duration and budget. The authors found that in terms of project timeliness and budget, respondents' satisfaction was similar to that as reported in other surveys. However, respondents reported that their organizations' software quality practices were not nearly as bad as indicated in other, widely cited surveys. This online version contains additional reference material and figures that did not appear in the print version.
