Optimal Row-Column Designs in High-Throughput Screening Experiments

Summary: [This abstract is based on the author’s abstract.] This article examines saturated row-column designs in high-throughput screening experiments, which examine a large number of compounds to identify those which are pharmacologically active. An (M, S)-optimal designs are inherently binary, with no treatment appearing twice in the same row or column. A series of (M, S)-optimal designs allows the estimation of all paired comparisons. The article presents a design for an 8x12 microplate; optimal designs with different dimensions can be created systematically.
