Statistical Emulation of Large Linear Dynamic Models

Summary: [This abstract is based on the authors' abstract.] A new methodology is described for emulating high-order dynamic simulation models through dominant mode analysis. The analysis reveals a reduced-order linear transfer function that closely replicates the linear behavior of the higher-order model. This emulation or meta model can substitute for the larger model in sensitivity analysis, forecasting, control system design and other applications. Two examples demonstrate the technique.
