Summary: The EFQM (formerly the European Foundation for Quality Management) Excellence Model is a framework for management systems designed to help organizations become more competitive. It can help organizations develop visions and goals, it fosters an understanding of the systemic nature of a business, it is the basis for the EFQM Excellence Award, which recognizes companies' successful customer experiences, and it can be used as a diagnostic tool for organizational health. The authors' organization, STMicroelectronics, has used the EFQM Excellence Model to create a holistic view of the company, identify priorities, and foster continuous improvement. The EFQM has given STMicroelectronics a number of advantages, including increased organizational synergy, formalizing organizational priorities, and managing organizational change.
